The Full Story
Goodfish
2024
My final March 2 thesis delved into a topic close to my heart: how globalisation is eradicating the traditional, successful economic foundations of many coastal communities, with a focus on fish production in Ghana.
The Mission
To use Architecture as a platform that fosters sustainable growth and equitable resource exchange in coastal regions!
Political Challenges
For us in the West, this project calls for a reconsideration of our role in shaping the economic landscapes of developing nations.
Life At Sea
The architectural outcome was a thoughtfully designed two part structure that responds to the unique needs and rituals of these communities, aiming to preserve their cultural heritage while promoting sustainable development.

User Needs Analysis
Through detailed study of the daily lives of fishing communities, from morning beach gatherings to afternoon net repairs, I gathered key insights through interviews. This led to a proposal that meets the needs of my clients, the fishing community.
The Structure
For the fish facility and visitor centre to succeed, materials like wawa wood and bamboo, reflecting the local area, were essential to integrate with the community and enhance daily fish production practices.
Balancing Tradition and Innovation
Achieving economic growth while preserving the integrity of traditional methods in a vulnerable coastal area.
The Conclusion
By embracing a more collaborative and
inclusive approach to global development, we can foster sustainable growth that
benefits all stakeholders.
